Offer to NZNO members – "very disappointing", 30 March 2023
Kia ora Member,
During today’s negotiations your bargaining team gave feedback to Te Whatu Ora on some aspects of their offer. The offer was three percent this year and three percent next year, not backdated but with a lump sum payment of $500, which is $100 per month since the agreement expired.
This falls well short of what would really value nursing staff. We were also concerned that it contained nothing around safe staffing/ratios or health and safety.
Te Whatu Ora were only willing to make one minor adjustment in response to our feedback which was to extend access to professional supervision from just including senior nurses to also including senior midwives and nurse practitioners.
This response was very disappointing and we will be asking members whether it really meets their needs.
We informed Te Whatu Ora that, now we have something concrete, we intend to talk with members about the offer and the next steps to take.
To do this we will begin running paid union meetings shortly, and we will be sending out more specific information about the offer well before these occur.
Be part of our Day of Action!
In the meantime, we encourage all members to attend our national Day of Action on Saturday 15 April. NZNO will be holding rallies for members and their communities across Aotearoa urging political parties to commit to more nurses and better pay.
This is what our collective bargaining is all about. Help send a strong message by taking action and turning out to your local rally.
Ngā mihi,
Paul Goulter, Chief Executive
