Members vote overwhelmingly to launch strike ballot, 30 June 2023
Kia ora Member,
Te Whatu Ora members who attended online meetings from 22-26 June have voted overwhelmingly to launch a ballot for strike action. Feelings of frustration and anger at Te Whatu Ora's lack of response to our claims were expressed in the meetings. This is reflected in the ballot result with 97 percent of those who attended meetings voting to launch a strike ballot.
The strike ballot will run between 11-19 July using Election Runner. The ballot will include the dates and times of proposed strike action. NZNO members employed by Te Whatu Ora in roles covered by the collective agreement will be emailed a link to an online ballot on Tuesday 11 July. This will be sent to the email address where you usually receive NZNO emails.
An important part of the 22-26 June online meetings was gathering ideas from members working on the floor about the most powerful form that potential strike action could take. Members provided a lot of considered feedback about the timing and duration of strike action that would achieve maximum impact. The majority of members felt the impact of longer strikes and rolling strikes was more effectual.
We are considering the member feedback as we head towards making the call about the nature and timing of the proposed strike action. Members also need to consider the possibility of actions needing to occur over an extended period of time in order to achieve what is needed.
